The Messina family continues the ancient tradition of producing wines
begun before 500 B.C. in the Peloponnesus of Greece and continued by
Greek colonists in Italy. This 2002 varietal is derived from high
benchland merlot grapes grown in the rich volcanic soil in the center of
the prized Dry Creek Valley of California's Sonoma County where fine
wines have been produced for over a century. The wine flavors compliment
beef and lamb as well as pasta or pesto sauces and is equally at home
with a variety of cheese dishes. It is ready for present drinking and
shows promise of aging well.
